Volunteer at United Way

United Way volunteers

We couldn't do it without you. Volunteers enable us to successfully and smoothly run our operations and events. We have many important and fulfilling volunteer opportunities that will support the community and help make a better future for our city, including: event support, operational support and allocations panel.

If you'd like to put your professional skills to work at one of our member agencies, check out our Professional Volunteering opportunities.

Event support

Getting involved in United Way by supporting our events is fun—and easy to do.

Check out our event calendar for details on upcoming events and see photos from past events.

Operational Support

Throughout the year, we have many vital volunteer opportunities available at our office that enable us to run our United Way operations. Volunteering at United Way is a great way to meet new people and develop your skills. Your donated time and talent will help the work of United Way to strengthen our neighbourhoods and improve the lives of many across our city.

There are currently no Operational Support Volunteer positions available.

For other volunteering opportunities, fill out our general volunteer form or contact our volunteer coordinator at volunteer@uwgt.org or 416 777 1444 ex 255 and we'll get you on your way for a rewarding and exciting experience. You can make a difference!

Allocation Panel

volunteer Adwoa

"Each volunteer gives about 80 to 100 hours. At the allocations' level, it's an intense commitment and involves serious dedication."

Would you like to connect with our communities, learn more about the important work of our member agencies and make Toronto a better city?

Each fundraising year, Panel Volunteers review member agency funding applications to make funding level recommendations to United Way's Board of Trustees in support of our member agencies. Panel Volunteers play an important role in ensuring donor dollars are spent according to current and emerging community service needs as efficiently and effectively as possible.

Needless to say, the commitment is demanding–but very rewarding. Each Panel Volunteer must attend 12 hours of training in the fall and commit to approximately 60 hours over a five-month period. The peak time–between mid-January to mid-February–requires a minimum commitment of 45 hours. Applicants must complete a detailed application form, attend a personal interview and follow United Way policies and funding criteria. The volunteer review process involves reading funding submissions, and visiting and participating in a review meeting with member agencies.

The application process for the 2009/10 volunteer review cycle is now over. If you would like to submit an application for the next review cycle, it will be brought forward in May 2010. For more information about this important volunteer role or to submit an application for spring 2010, please contact United Way's volunteer coordinator.
