What to expect at Rouge

Held on November 10, 2011, Rouge is United Way GenNext’s signature event—it was a celebration of our successes and of the great support that GenNexters provide to United Way Toronto. Each year, we strive to make it an event to remember, and this year was no exception! The event was a shining star on our annual calendar, and we hosted more than 500 guests this year.

Rouge was a great event for a great cause that raised almost $50,000 for United Way Toronto’s Community Fund and was held at the fabulous The Fifth Social Club (225 Richmond Street West).

Guests had the chance to bid on some fantastic items in our silent auction, as well as amazing art in the Timeraiser. Guests got to enjoy some great musical performances, had a chance to learn more about United Way Toronto and the work we do in the community, and meet other GenNexters who are also interested in helping build a better city for everyone. And at the end of the night, guests went home with an amazing gift bag filled with treats provided by our generous sponsors.

What is Timeraiser?

The Timeraiser is part silent art auction, part volunteer fair, and part night on the town! For the second year in a row, United Way GenNext was proud to work with our community partner, Framework, to bring guests a smaller-scale version of the Timeraiser at Rouge this year.

Here’s how it worked:

  • Throughout the evening, guests met representatives from some of United Way Toronto’s member agencies and talked to them about available volunteer opportunities.
  • Throughout the evening, guests also took a look at the fabulous artwork available for them to bid on.
  • When guests decided on a volunteer opportunity they wanted to take part in, and a piece of art that they’d like to bid on, they made their bid with volunteer hours instead of money.
  • The winning bidders have 12 months in which to complete their pledge, at which point they get to bring home their piece of art as a reminder of their goodwill!

Timeraiser is a chance for our guests to get out into the community and really make a connection through volunteering, as well as to take home an amazing piece of art by a local artist. Thank you to everyone who generously bid their time to help make our city better for everyone.
