Dovercourt Boys & Girls Club celebrates 50 years as United Way Member Agency
Since it opened its doors in 1958, the Dovercourt Boys and Girls club has been a home away from home for over 30,000 youth. United Way supports a vital network of critical services across the city
When you give to United Way’s Community Fund, you support a network of 200 agencies providing vital social services to hundreds of thousands of people throughout the city – single parents, abused women, young children and teenagers, the elderly, the physically challenged, the homeless, and the many new immigrants who need help to realize their dreams of a better life in Canada.
United Way is the only major funding organization that delivers significant core operating support to social service agencies. This base support of funding provides stability and allows agencies the flexibility to develop and respond to emerging needs of the communities they serve. In addition to core funding, United Way offers time limited special grant initiatives such as Focus on Youth, Newcomer Grants, Community Development Planning Grants, Success by Six, Winter Relief Fund and the Toronto Enterprise Fund.
Our member agencies receive our long-term, ongoing financial support, so they can plan ahead
In order to become and remain a United Way member, agencies must meet strict membership standards and performance criteria. They must be located in the City of Toronto, and be incorporated, non-profit social service organizations with charitable status. Once a member, agencies are regularly reviewed through our volunteer review process.

Agencies receiving grant funding
While our member agencies have accomplished a great deal, the challenges are significant, and they alone are unable to address all of the issues in the city. In response to community needs, United Way Toronto funds a variety of granting programs—improving access to services and helping to meet growing demands. A complete list of grant recipient agencies is located in our latest annual report.
